FAQ FOR CLIENTS

Who are you?

Gigus Technologies, Inc. (‘Gigus’) is a Newark Delaware c-corp founded in 2019 by Emery Bishop, a serial entrepreneur and digital product developer. Gigus has a sharp, lean leadership team you can meet here. Our goal? Build a place for elite talent to work with first-rate clients and build awesome products, through an unwavering commitment to quality and delight. Ultimately Gigus is on a mission to build the best model and replicable template for the future of all work.

How does the Zero Risk Guarantee work?

We start each engagement with a trial period of one full week (covering a full agile sprint cycle with deliverables). If you’re completely satisfied with the results, we’ll bill you for the time and continue the engagement for as long as you like. If you’re not 100% satisfied, you won’t be billed at all. From there, we can either have a friendly parting of ways, or we can provide you with another expert who may be a better fit and with whom we will begin a second, no-risk trial. The same guarantee goes for all project based engagements incorporating several experts at once.

What makes this platform so special?

Glad you asked!:) At Gigus, we leverage our infrastructure and screening processes to curate the highest caliber talent in the world. We hand-select the right match for you from our network. In most cases we introduce you to ideal candidates for your project within 48 hours, and 9/10 of our clients hire the talent we introduce.

There are many freelance platforms out there, and they’re all pretty similar. Post a job, get dozens of applicants, screen or interview each one, hire and hope, The whole process takes tons of valuable time and yet still provides mediocre hiring success rate, at best. Then if you find someone you like and invest time and money into them and that person quits, you are right back where you started with interviewing more applicants.

With Gigus, we do things completely differently. We save you time on the front end by pre-vetting in the extreme, every freelancers for their skills, attitude and communication abilities. Then we provide you with fast access to these the right freelancers within our network in a curated fashion after you tell us what the perfect project outcome or hire looks like. On the backend, we include fully managed agile product development, 24/7 support and a no risk performance guarantee to help you get the most out of your new hires.

Can you tell me about your freelancers?

More than simply freelancers we call our members Gigus Experts because they are individual masters of their craft, who make their entire income as freelance specialist freelancers, not side hustles. They also have at least 5 years of full time experience working as both a freelancer and in their specialization of choice.

All our experts have gone through a unique interview process to ensure they are deeply effective within their skill set, have a clear passionate for it, have a great attitude about being of service, and are ambitious to build their careers to the highest level. Gigus reviews dozens of submitted applications each week and is very strict on who passes the screening process.

How does your screening process work exactly?

We vet all applicants through a 5 level screening process. We match all candidates who pass to the interview phases with Gigus’s most senior domain experts for each and every interview, and each final candidate completes test projects to demonstrate live proficiency within projects similar to what they would work on in a typical engagement.

At Gigus, we invite to join, as an average, fewer than 1% of candidates who apply. We ensure only the very best talent in the world are working within the Gigus network. You can learn more about the full screening process here.

Are all Gigus experts fluent english speakers?

Yes, every expert freelancer on our platform writes and speaks fluent English as a prerequisite. Our screening process and interviews ensure they have a high level of communication proficiency.

What type of projects can be completed on Gigus?

Our platform and experts are masters in rapid prototyping, customer driven product design, enterprise software application development, data science projects and artificial intelligence.

Where do Gigus Experts work from?

Gigus was built from the ground up as a remote-first work platform. Therefore the vast majority of our talent work from their home offices, coworking spaces or Gigus’s regional satellite offices. The majority of our network are located in the US (50%), Europe (25%) and the Americas (20%). On rare occasions, with mutual preference, Gigus experts work on-location at our clients offices.

Can I hire a worker from Gigus and bring him or her into our company full time?

Yes. If an expert is interested, we can absolutely work with you to facilitate this, so that we establish a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Who owns the rights to any work created with Gigus experts?

The client owns everything 100%. Our contracts provide that all work created by a Gigus expert is the property of the client, not Gigus. Gigus’s exclusive purpose is helping our clients build world-class products via our platform and experts, not owning their IP.

How do you ensure our IP is fully protected?

We use tight, military grade controls in regard to client information, it’s access and it’s storage. Every precaution is taken to keep our systems secure. We only show your project’s details to staff members and talent who work on it and are under a strict NDA with us. Gigus enters into legally binding agreements with every member of our talent network. Through these agreements, Gigus obtains exclusive ownership of the work created by talent that works with you. We then provide you with all rights and ownership of intellectual property for the work that the Gigus talent creates for you under your client agreements.

Can we sign my NDA instead of Gigus’s NDAs?

Unfortunately, we work with so many different customers that it is impossible for us to sign everyone’s NDA. The legal & compliance overhead is too cost prohibitive. Rest assured the NDA we provide is standard & fair for all parties.

How do your service options work?

There are two tracks of work Gigus can provide clients, depending on the requirements which are uncovered during the initial discovery process. Here are the two different tracks things can go:

Project Based Engagement
The client will work with a lead product manager supported by the assigned success manager and two or more person development team. Work is fully managed under the agile Extreme Programming (XP) framework including weekly customer meetings and reporting.

Talent Based Engagement
The client will work directly with one or more individual Gigus experts supported by the assigned success manager, essentially as an extension of their own team. Talent can be engaged for part-time full-time or hourly work over a period of one week to several months.

Important Note: On average and depending on the size of a project, the client saves between 25-35% costs (per individual) choosing project based over talent based engagements. This will be due to a combination of factors including a leaner, more efficient product development infrastructure, less communication overhead and better QA when incorporating our frameworks and systems for product development over an average clients technology development system.

What is Extreme Programming (XP)?

Extreme Programming (XP) is an agile software development methodology designed to improve the quality of software and its ability to properly adapt to changing needs. Gigus implements XP for all development to best establish robust testing and security processes, optimise the software development lifecycle for continuous delivery and automation. Here is an very good introductory article with additional links if you would like to learn more about the advantages of XP and agile product development.

How will I manage my team when they start?

You won’t need to. Gigus fully handles project management for you unless you are hiring individual talent to augment to your own internal team through Gigus. By providing a dedicated product manager and our agile programming frameworks we make the process much smoother for our clients in heavy lift the labour. Your dedicated success or product managers take the lead on communication and signing off on every phase of development with you.

Our investors don't want us to outsource our software development, how would you respond?

There are very good reasons to have your own team for your core competences but there are good reasons to consider outsourcing software development when you're a smaller startup, and under specific circumstances. Here are some reasons:

  • Software development is not your leadership team’s core competency which can make in-house hires more dangerous than helpful.
  • You are going to hire a technical team in house but want to quickly and more affordably build out and test your prototype first.
  • You want to build and use your prototype to convince top technical talent or key investors to join and back your startup.
  • You want to quickly and cheaply test a technical concept before distracting your core team or risking cash making a more substantial investment.
  • You want to augment your internal technical capabilities with specialized talent that can build an application in parallel like going multi platform, going mobile native or adding deeper machine intelligence.
  • You are convinced that the outsource developers you’re going to use will do the job of building your software better than you could internally, so you want to your precious time and resources internally on other priorities like operations, marketing, business development, traction and growth.

How often will you send us updates?

Your success or product managers will schedule a weekly call with you to ensure that your project is on track and also will send you weekly updates via email related to details of the current sprint cycle. Furthermore your team will send you work to review and sign off on during all key milestones.

What tools do I use to communicate with my talent?

Several optional tools we use regularly include email, phone, text, Skype, WhatsApp, Video conference (Zoom/Google/Appear.in) or Slack. We also use project management and development related tools to communicate internally and with clients including Atlassian, Github, Gitlab, Clickup or BeeEpic. We like to keep things simple and streamlined per project so you will work out specific policies and tool selections with your dedicated success or product managers during the initial setup phase of your project.

How do we wrap up my project?

After we’ve finished building your product, we do a final quality assurance and user experience test closeout. Your success or product managers also arrange any necessary training or team presentation demos. Once you sign off we deliver your completed package of code, designs and documentation. We the hope that we can always continue to revisit our development partnership as you continue to develop on your product or introduce new project to your company roadmap. We also dearly appreciate referrals from happy customers when all is said and done.

What about any bugs issues that come up?

We consider a bug as any functionality in your product that does not work as specified in your project proposal, milestones or sprint stories. As Gigus is 100% committed to building you an incredibly high quality product, which means we must make sure that your product has as few bugs as possible. Our XP agile development framework combined with the calibre of our talent makes this area a significant value add to working with Gigus. Our framework most notably negates almost entirely the typical final phase of product development with it’s heavy focus on fixing bugs because we incorporate deep QA into every single sprint which saves valuable time and resources for our clients.

How do you handle later stage revisions or product feature pivots?

We love them, anticipate them and expect them! Since we are using an agile rather than waterfall method to build product we anticipate continuous feedback and revisions coming up. We architect all our applications in a manner that also allows for flexibility within its foundation. Each new weekly sprint cycle is an opportunity for us to gain our customers or customer’s customers feedback to modify their priorities accordingly, then quickly build, ship and test new updates the following cycle.

When you get our overall estimates we build a layer of flexibility. To this end we are capable of performing virtually any revisions that where or where not part of the original project scope, but we need to limit and prioritize workload each individual sprint. One of your product managers core responsibilities is to help manage your priorities and keep and clear focus ROI and value creation in order to guarantee that projects are kept under budget, never become bloated and are delivered with a focus on quality and speed.

Examples of project revisions could include:

  • Adding new features to an existing list
  • Storing additional user data in the backend
  • Adding a deeper level of automation to the product
  • Completely changing a layout or page design
  • Adding additional user experience surveys or split tests

Can freelancers work on the projects based off of our prefered office hours?

Both no and yes.

No, by definition all of our freelancers are their own bosses and have chosen to work remotely in a manner and at times that improves their productivity, effectiveness and quality of life. We therefore encourage our talent to work on their own schedule provided it’s well documented, well communicated and is a fairly consistent schedule that can be communicated in advance to our clients.

But also yes, because when you set up your project requirements you will indicate the preference that you have for the hours being worked on the project and we do factor this into our team recommendations for you and you will ultimately decide on the makeup of the team that moves forward for you. Secondly, as is policy at Gigus, your dedicated success and product managers will schedule and manage meetings and communications with you based on your shared preferences and on behalf of their more flexible team members. They will also anticipate and schedule in any of the team’s specialists that should be involved in specific meetings.

Will too much freelancer flexibility impact performance or slow our progress?

If teams or individual freelancers are unable to perform well for clients while within a flexible schedule that falls outside of regular office hours, historically Gigus’s leadership found it was more the result of bad systems, weak management, lack of professionalism or poor reporting and communication rather than stemming from the actual flexibility in practice.

The goal at Gigus is for our clients and our talent to be build wonderful, mutually beneficial relationships and products together so we focus on making sure our own systems are smart and can account for high flexibility in order to ensure trust and cultivate delight.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes we do! Gigus has an official referral reward program because firstly we love customer referrals and find that many of our most rewarding work and best talent comes through our existing network. We therefore want to appreciate our referees with compensation by way of an extra big thank you.
